Living a healthy, energized, happy involves many things: Exercise, sleep, nutrition, a social life — and the list goes on. In fact, over the years, a number of researchers have identified eight dimensions of wellness...
Good news: With the Wellness Goals feature on Count.It, admins can target any of the eight dimensions with specific, actionable "mini challenges." Wellness Goals are a powerful, and fully customizable, way to take your challenge to the next level.
Sample Wellness Goals
When adding Wellness Goals to their challenge, admins can choose from the Count.It library of dozens of popular S.M.A.R.T. goals, or they can create their own custom goals. Here are a just few examples of typical wellness goals:
Get at least 8 hours of sleep tonight to improve your sleep quality.
Try a new physical activity (e.g., yoga, pilates, dance) for 15 minutes today.
Power down: turn off screens 30 minutes before bed to reduce blue light exposure.
Try a new recipe or share a favorite one with a colleague.
Give away at least one item of clothing you no longer need, or upcycle an old household item into something useful.
Spend 10 minutes journaling to capture your immediate thoughts, feelings, or experiences.
And many more!
What Challenge Participants See
When Wellness Goals are turned on, challenge participants will be alerted when there are new goals to complete. On the challenge home screen, they will see a bright animated button along the left side of the screen at the level of their progress. They will also see a badge on the manual entry logging button indicating the number of available Wellness Goals.
When the challenger opens their manual entry logging form, or taps on the animated goals button, they will be able to navigate to any available Wellness Goals.
Turn On Wellness Goals
During challenge creation, you will be offered the choice to add Wellness Goals to your challenge. To access the main Wellness Goal management screens, tap/click "+ Turn on Wellness Goals."
If you don't turn on Wellness Goals goals during challenge creation, you can always add them at any time later, or access those that you've created. Simply go to Challenge --> Settings, and scroll down to the Wellness Goals option.
Choose Your Wellness Goal Mode
On the main Wellness Goals screen, you will see the option to select a Wellness Goal mode: Automatic, Custom, or Off.
Wellness Goal Modes Explained
Automatic: Count.It will auto-select one goal each day from the Count.It Wellness Goal Collection, and deliver that goal to your challenge participants. Challenge participants will be able to complete one and only one goal per day.
Custom: You can create your own collection of Wellness Goals, and have complete control over how to schedule these -- setting number of goals to display each day, and the limits on completions.
Off: No Wellness Goals will be delivered to participants.
Create Your Own Wellness Goals
For many groups, the Count.It Wellness Goal collection will be just right, but if you would like to add your own custom goal(s), it's easy to do. This can be especially useful for targeting specific behaviors like attendance at a real world challenge event, or completing a fun action that is otherwise relevant just to your community.
It's easy to create your own goals!
Select the "Custom" mode on the main Wellness Goal screen, and then tap the "Create a New Goal" button.
On the "Create new goal" screen, provide the text description for you goal, set the points value, and choose the relevant categories.
When done editing your goal, tap the "Save" button.
Once your Wellnes Goal is created, it will be automatically added to your current challenge. It will also be added to your own Wellness Goal Collection for use in other or future challenges.
Wellness Goal Description
Wellness goal descriptions should be short and sweet -- 140 characters or less.
The best goals are S.M.A.R.T. - that is, specific, measurable, assignable, realistic, and time-bound!
Wellness Goal Points
You can assign one of five possible points values to your goal. Keep in mind that in all Count.It challenges, 1 step = 1 point. This will help you assess the relative value of each goal.
500 pts: Easy and quick, but can be life changing!
1000 pts: Standard difficulty. Do-able in about 10 minutes.
2500 pts: Above average difficulty.
5000 pts: Hard. Equal to half a day of points.
10000 pts: Most difficult. The equivalent of logging a 10K step day.
Wellness Goal Categories
When you create your goal, assign it to the category that best fits the goal. If you'd like to add more than one category, that's fine too. The Count.It categories are closely linked to the Eight Dimensions of Wellness model, though we have split the "Physical" category into three sub-categories for easier tracking. These categories will allow you to search your collection quickly, and also create challenge themes!

Publishing Your Wellness Goals
Count.It gives you a powerful mini-publishing system to manage your goals, allowing you to:
Set the order of your goals.
Turn on and off specific goals during the challenge.
Manage the completion limits for each goal in your challenge.
