Troubleshooting Android Health Connect Sync Issues

Health Connect is the hub for Android devices. Let's get your data flowing.

Updated this week

Most of the time, activity data from your fitness tracker syncs without issue to Count. It through Android Health Connect. The easiest way to keep things flowing smoothly is just to open your Count. It app regularly.

If you’re not seeing your data, it’s usually a simple fix. Follow the steps below carefully and you’ll be back on track.

✅ Start Here: Simple Checks

Ask yourself:

  • Does your group have an active challenge (i.e. it has started and is not yet over)?

  • Are you a member of the challenge?

  • Have you logged any relevant activity during the challenge period?

  • Does your phone have Internet access?

💡 Tip: If the challenge hasn’t started (or has ended), or your activity doesn’t match the challenge type (e.g. steps in an exercise-only challenge), no data will appear. Also, Count. It needs internet access to sync.

What Is Android Health Connect?

Health Connect is Android’s central hub for wellness data. It lets apps like Samsung Health, Google Fit, Strava, and others share your activity data with Count.It.

Once permissions are granted, Count. It can receive steps, workout logs, and more — depending on your challenge setup.

🔁 Normal Sync Behavior

After connecting Health Connect to Count. It, syncs typically happen:

  • Every time you open the Count. It app

  • Every 15 minutes in the background

  • Every time you tap the manual sync button on your Challenge screen

Reminder: Your phone must have Internet access to sync successfully.

Step 1: Confirm You Have Data in Health Connect

Make sure your actual activity is showing up in Health Connect.

Option A: From the Health Connect app

  • Open Health Connect.

  • Tap “Data & access”

  • Tap into a data type (like Steps or Workouts).

  • Confirm that you see activity on the dates your challenge is running.

Option B: From Google Fit (if used)

  1. Open Google Fit.

  2. Go to SettingsHealth ConnectManage data and access.

  3. Confirm that sync between Google Fit and Health Connect is happening.

🛑 Step 2: Turn Off Google Fit Connection

If you have both Google Fit and Health Connect connected to Count. It, it may confuse the sync process.

  1. Open the Trackers screen in Count.It.

  2. Toggle off the Google Fit → Count. It connection.

  3. Leave Health Connect turned on.

🔐 Step 3: Confirm Health Connect Permissions

  1. Open the Health Connect app.

  2. Tap “App permissions”.

  3. Find Count.It.

  4. Ensure permissions are granted for:

    • Steps

    • Workouts / Exercise

    • Any other relevant data types

🔄 Step 4: Refresh the Connection

This step resets permissions from the system level.

  • In Count. It → Trackers screen, turn off Health Connect.

  • Uninstall the Count. It app from your phone.
(Don’t worry! Your account and data are safe in the cloud.)

  • Reinstall Count. It from the Google Play Store.

  • Log back in and go to the Trackers screen.

  • Reconnect Health Connect, and grant all permissions, including the system-level activity tracking permission

  • Open your challenge page.

  • (Optional) Tap the manual sync button once.

🔁 How the Manual Sync Button Works

  • Pulls in activity data from the start of your challenge (up to 28 days back)

  • Only works once fully per open session. To re-sync:

    1. Close and reopen the app

    2. Tap the manual sync button again

🧠 Still No Luck?

Try these final tips:

  • Restart your phone.

  • Confirm your activity type matches the challenge (e.g. steps vs. workouts).

  • If you just enabled syncing in Google Fit → Health Connect, it may take a little time.

  • If possible, share screenshots of your Health Connect data log so we can help debug.
